Dear Students
NEET has come untimely. Let us come to reality and reset out mind.
1. You were aiming at the 85% of the medical seats in TN. This number remaining the same, so no discussion needed here. The percentage of reservations to various communities is also unaltered.
2. Who are your competitors? In addition to the state board schools, students from the CBSC schools. The number of CBSC schools are still <10% , especially those with 12th std. I could not get the exact figure of number of students in biology group. They are at advantage, no doubt. But, less than 1/3rd of them are proactively preparing for the medical entrance. And, just because somebody has gone through CBSE syllabus, it does not mean they will do well in the entrance test. It needs understanding the question, choosing between two close answers and a bit of luck. This will differentiate those who simply memorized the lessons vs those who understood and read it. State syllabus is no less, needs some different way of re-reading and preparation. So, not all of CBSE students are better than every one of you. Moreover, in many CBSE schools, non TN residents are studying who are not eligible for the 85% seats.
3. Do you stand a better chance from a different way? Probably yes. Now you are fighting for the entire 100% seats of TN and also the 15% seats in the entire country. Having worked hard for 2 years, work harder for two more months. You might get a chance to study anywhere in India.
4. Who are most benefitted? Every year, there is a small group of good children who miss the medical seat by few marks. They were all paying a huge amount to private colleges. Now, these children would automatically get into one of the good private medical colleges. Or, they can prepare again and write NEET next year and get into Govt colleges. Earlier, middle class parents never considered private colleges even if their children were good. Now, all those eligible students stand a good chance. i.e., even in private colleges, only reasonably good students can join.
5. Who are most affected? Those who were not studying well but were relying on the money power to get into private medical colleges. Their chances have been reduced to the minimal management quota. Are you in this group? Then better start reading at least now.
You still stand a high chance of getting into a medical school and don’t listen to opinions or discussions on this subject but concentrate towards NEET.
BEST WISHES.// A different outlook on NEET by Dr BRJ Kannan cardiologist //
