Every element has a unique spectrum.
Why? Every element has an unique no. of electrons.
Available energy transitions are unique for every element.
So spectrum for each element is unique. 



Each element produces a unique set of spectral lines. 
Since no two elements emit the same spectral lines, 
elements can be identified by their line spectrum.

Raman spectroscopy:
provides a structural fingerprint by which molecules can be identified.
Raman spectroscopy for the rapid identification of illicit substances 
in their containers in an airport environment.



 Forensic analysis:
Identification of cocaine
and other illegal drugs.
