POST VRS SCENARIO IN BSNL: Staff position

Total staff in BSNL = 1,53,786
VRS optees = 78,569
VRS Non optees among the eligible (age > 50) = 25,902
Remaining staff in BSNL = 75,217.
The remaining staff includes Executives, Non Executives and Industrial Workers.
The strength of the aforesaid 75,217 will further reduce by a few thousands due to normal
retirement on superannuation. This figure may come to at least 400 or 500
(approximately on All India level) every month upto the end of Dec 2020.
Thereafter practically there may be no retirement. This means that almost all the
erstwhile DOT people who were absorbed in BSNL are out by 2020.

VRS optees = 14,387.
Remaining staff = 4430
MTNL is the service provider only in two metro cities Mumbai and Delhi.

BSNL is formed on 01.10.2000. Its present CMD is Pravin Kumar Purwar.
MTNL is formed on 01.04.1986. Its present CMD is Sunil Kumar.
Post VRS: Reduction in salary bills:

BSNL is expected to save Rs 7000 crore to Rs 8000 crore in salary bill
post VRS. (Exact figures are expected).
MTNL is expected to save more. Salary bill would be Rs 500 crore only
against the present Rs 2272 crore according to Shri Sunil Kumar, CMD MTNL.
