DIALECTICS

To my knowledge, "dialectical materialism" is not a term that Marx ever used.
Nor was dialectic pioneered by Hegel, though it was deepened by Hegel.
Predecessors of Hegel in the modern German Idealist tradition also developed further concepts of dialectic. Even Kant used the term "dialektik", though in a quite different sense.
Moreover, the term goes back at least to Plato, who saw " dialektike' " as the coping stone of his entire philosophy, above which no other study should be placed.
Aristotle also included dialectic in his system, though in a much restricted manner, as the way in which unproven axioms for the special sciences can be discovered.
Per Aristotle, dialectic began with Zeno's "reductio ad absurdum" proof-strategies, and continued in the related form of the Socratean "Elunchus".
Others would argue that dialectic goes back at least to the Pythagoreans and to Heraclitus.

Karl Marx was not responsible for coining the term “dialectical materialism”. But it was he who was responsible to explain the “rational kernel in Hegel’s mystic shell”. Marx was decidedly dialectical and materialist. Enough said.

However the term “Dialectical Materialism” was never used by Marx and Engels. It was introduced in Marxist circle Georgi Plekhnov, the father of Soviet Marxism. The philosophy was then established as the official philosophy of soviet union by Stalin
