1) Hon'ble Amma suffered cardiac arrest today (04.12.2016) evening.
2) She is supported by ECMO (Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation)
along with VAD ( Ventricular Assist Device).
3) Whenever a patient's heart and lungs fail to supply the necessary blood flow
and oxygen for the functioning of the body, the patient is placed under ECLS
(Extra Corporeal Life Support).
4) The heart of the patient having failed to work, the ECMO would do its job
and through the VAD the blood circulation is done. In short, the functions of
the heart and the lungs are now being done by the ECMO and VAD.
5) The ECMO and VAD will not cure anything but serves as an external
supplement.
6) The above set up allows the heart and the lungs to rest performing their work.
7) This set up would be helpful for hours together. Availing the rest given by the
above set up. the heart should recover and start functioning. Let us hope for it.
8) We wish her a speedy recovery.
